Tern’s mom and dad abandoned him and left him with his grandmom when he was born. When Tern’s mom was pregnant with him she continued to work at a bar and drink alcohol. Grandma sells vegetables in the market to support her family despite her poor health and surviving a near fatal accident. Tern’s mom only comes back to collect the small government assistance sent to her kids. Tern’s grandma and the 3 children who live with her live on someone else’s land and have no clean water access. Tern has a developmental delay and bone trouble in places where it is fractured and misplaced. Despite this, he likes to play football, badminton, eat spicy food, and wants to be a soldier. He wants to study so he can have a better future.
